Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis, a common condition in our country, is a major cause of spine and hip fractures. Osteoporosis results in decreased bone strength on account of decreased bone density. Timely diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis are both critical because of the role played by hip fractures in increasing mortality.

This silent and often preventable disease results from advancing age, female sex, low weight, previous or low trauma fracture, hip fracture in a mother or father, smoking, corticosteroid use, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and excessive daily alcoholic intake.
